• Our Purpose

Our purpose is to develop the highest standards of leadership in local government and the wider public sector. We provide excellent opportunities for the current and future professional leadership of local government to learn, develop and to network with each other and with contemporaries from other areas of public life. We influence the debate about the future of public services and ensure that policy is informed by the experience and expertise of our members.

We operate across three main strands: an active, member-focused professional organisation, offering sector-leading support, new thinking, and a full calendar of events, including our Annual Summit; policy analysis, thought-leadership and influencing on fundamental areas of public service; and commercial activities, with exceptional interim and permanent recruitment through Solace in Business, as well as personal career development services and bespoke organisational development / training delivered by Solace.

Solace represents the sector in conversations with government officials, as well as the media; shares best practice across the sector; forms effective partnerships with relevant organisations; and contributes to proactive policy thinking and development. Our over-subscribed event programme provide unique opportunities for Solace members to learn about the latest thought-leadership and research, as well as meet, learn from and network with colleagues from local government, the wider public sector and the third and private sectors.
